Flake Ice Machine

Flake Ice Machine — Commercial & Industrial Solutions

Thin, dry flake ice with maximum surface contact for rapid cooling. Our flake ice machines range from 500kg to 30 tons per day, serving seafood markets, food processing plants, supermarkets, and construction projects worldwide.

What is Flake Ice and Why Choose It?

Flake ice is a type of thin, flat, irregularly shaped ice that is typically 1-3mm thick. It is produced by freezing water on the surface of a rotating drum evaporator, then scraping it off in flake form. This production method makes flake ice machines one of the most energy-efficient ice making solutions available.

Flake ice is preferred over other ice types when rapid cooling is the priority. Its large surface area-to-volume ratio means it wraps around products and cools them faster than cube or block ice. It also doesn’t damage delicate products like seafood, making it the standard choice in fisheries and fresh food handling worldwide.

✅ Fastest cooling speed — large surface area maximizes contact

✅ Gentle on products — won’t bruise seafood or fresh produce

✅ Dry and moldable — easy to pack around products for display

✅ Energy efficient — lower power consumption per ton of ice produced

Where is Flake Ice Used?

1: Seafood & Fishery

The global standard for seafood preservation. Flake ice wraps around fish, shrimp, and shellfish without damage, maintaining freshness from catch to market. Used on fishing vessels, at fish markets, and in seafood processing plants.

2: Supermarket & Fresh Display

Create attractive fresh produce displays that keep products cold and visually appealing. Flake ice beds for meat, seafood, fruits, and vegetables are standard in supermarkets and fresh food retailers worldwide.

3: Food & Meat Processing

Control temperature during mixing, grinding, and processing of meat, poultry, bakery dough, and dairy products. Flake ice absorbs heat quickly, preventing bacterial growth and maintaining product quality during production.

4: Concrete Cooling

Large-scale construction projects in hot climates require temperature-controlled concrete. Flake ice is mixed into concrete to lower the hydration temperature, preventing thermal cracking in bridges, dams, and high-rise buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions About Flake Ice Machines

What is the difference between air-cooled and water-cooled flake ice machines?

Air-cooled flake ice machines use fans to dissipate heat and are suitable for environments below 35°C. They’re easier to install and don’t require a water tower. Water-cooled models are more efficient in hot climates (above 35°C) and are recommended for capacities above 5 tons/day. We help you choose the right cooling type based on your installation environment and ambient temperature.

Power consumption varies by capacity. As a general guide: a 1-ton flake ice machine uses approximately 3.5-4 kW, producing one ton of ice in 24 hours for roughly 85-95 kWh of electricity. Larger models are more energy-efficient per ton. We provide detailed energy consumption data for each model to help you calculate operating costs.

Yes. We supply seawater-compatible flake ice machines with corrosion-resistant stainless steel and titanium alloy evaporators, specifically designed for fishing vessels and coastal processing plants. Seawater models are available from 1 ton to 20 tons per day.

Regular maintenance includes cleaning the evaporator drum (monthly), checking refrigerant pressure (quarterly), cleaning the water filter (monthly), and inspecting the ice scraper blade (every 6 months). We provide a complete maintenance guide with every machine and offer remote technical support for troubleshooting.

Standard warranty is 12 months for the complete machine, with 18 months for the compressor. Extended warranty options are available. We stock common spare parts and can ship replacements within 48 hours for urgent maintenance needs.
